As mums, miscarriage has probably touched our lives in some way.

One in four women suffer miscarriage, probably more. So if you haven’t experienced miscarriage yourself, chances are, you have a friend or relation that has.

I’ve had two miscarriages, both at opposite ends of the pain and suffering scale. The first was horrific, and the second, much less so. These words ring so true.

“I fell in love with you in my womb. Now I carry you in my heart instead of my arms”

I write through bleary eyes, even though it happened eight years ago.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about our experiences of miscarriage which we hope will help you, or someone you know, through it.

You’ll always wonder who your baby would have been, but my sincere hope is that this will support you in your healing.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

If you’re a regular listener of The Friday Café, you might just recognise today’s guest on Mum-to-Mum Monday.

Earlier this year, SuperMum, Michelle Dawson and her husband Nick attended ‘Unleash the Power Within’ in London, a four day conference hosted by Tony Robbins, the incredible American motivational speaker and self-development author.

Tony and his team tour all four corners of the globe each year with the event, and bring about huge life changes to the thousands of guests that attend his conferences.

And if you haven’t heard of ‘Unleash the Power Within’, you’ll certainly have heard about his famous Firewalk, where attendees walk barefoot over white hot coals. It’s a symbolic experience that proves if you can make it through the fire, you can make it through anything.

Well, Michelle and her husband Nick, who had two boys aged 4 and 2 at the time went along in April this year when Michelle was 5 months pregnant with Rafferty who was born last month in August.

Like so many others, the experience changed their lives dramatically, and Michelle is here today to share her incredible story.

And so impressed was I by Michelle in her interview, and her attitude to her life as a mother, I invited her to co-host The Friday Café each week. I love that this episode will give you an opportunity to get to know her a bit better.

Listen now to find out whether Michelle did the Firewalk literally whilst barefoot and pregnant.

Do you wake up in the morning with good intentions?

Today’s the day that I’m going to start running.

Today’s the day that I’m going to get my paperwork in order.

Today’s the day that I’m going to cut out chocolate.

But come the evening, you’re completely shattered, the kids are driving you crazy, and low and behold, none of it has been done, despite your good intentions.

And you feel like you’ve failed yourself again.

The good news is, the only thing that stands between you and your goals is willpower.

It’s not that some people have it and some people don’t.

No.

We all have willpower. And it’s a skill you can develop.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about willpower and the determination to succeed.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about fulfilling your goals and ambitions – the key word being fulfilling. That’s right, we take those dreams right out of your head and make them come alive.

My guest today is SuperMum, Victoria Kate. Vicky and her 9 year old son Finley live just a stone’s throw from the beautiful beach in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England.

Vicky is living proof that our dreams really can come true as she follows her life long passion to work for herself as a Life Coach whilst looking out from her desk to the sea. And after 24 years of having the dream of being an author in her head, she is finially writing the book that she’s always wanted.

Today, Vicky will ‘give your heart eyes’, as she so eloquantly puts it. One of the foundation stones to this is learning to understand what your goals really are and making them your own.

Not what your family, or your partner or society think your goals should be. Just you.

This way, when you attain them, you’ll finally be truely fufilled, rather than left cold and wanting the next big thing.

Through the use of positive thinking and visual images Vicky will step us through the process of how to be successful in achieving everything our heart desires, and not be restricted by limiting beliefs.

Using the metaphore of a lighthouse, Vicky will teach us how, as a mother, it’s important to keep our own light shining strong and bright so we can light the way for our children rather than casting dark shadows behind us and letting them find their own way.

Be grateful.

Say thank you.

We say it to our children all the time.

But are we practicing what we preach?

There is so much sunshine in our life, so much to be grateful for.

But we get so busy, we often don’t notice.

When things go wrong it’s easy to notice. The frustrations. The annoyances. The tiredness.

But finding things to be grateful for takes skill, and a change in mindset.

Helen Keller kept her face to the sunshine despite not being able to see or hear.

Can you do the same?

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about how you can keep your face in the sunshine by practicing gratitude.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about putting the sparkle back into your marriage.

When you first met your partner, life was so much fun. So carefree. So spontaneous. You could jump in the car and catch a movie at a moment’s notice. You could go out for dinner on a whim. You could stay up late, drink too much wine and not have to worry about getting up early in the morning.

You love your husband, but since your kids arrived and life got busy, your marriage isn’t as much fun as it used to be.

That’s why I invited SuperMum Shawn Fink onto my show. Shawn is mum to 10 year old twin girls, a family wellness coach for mothers around the world, the author of ‘The Playful Family’ and ‘The Abundant Mama’s guide to Savoring Slow’ and the founder of The Abundant Mother Project which inspires mothers to find their happy place so they can raise happy, thriving children in a peaceful home environment.

From her own personal experinece, Shawn realises how hard it is to maintain a marriage while raising kids and keeping a home running day after day. You can feel isolated and alone because between all the to-dos and deadlines and the children’s needs and phases there really isn’t much time left at the end of each day for anything, let alone your relationship.

But Shawn teaches us that with a change in our mindset, a shift in our interpersonal habits and by looking at our communication we can gain a deeper understanding of each other and have a marriage that thrives. A happy marriage filled with joy, fun, connection and teamwork.

If not now, when?

Someday. Later. Not yet. One day. Soon.

There’s always tomorrow.

But why not NOW?

It might be boring.
You might not feel like it.
You may not know how.

Overcome it, then take that critical first step.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Don’t let yourself feel overwhelmed.
And remember, you only fail if you don’t try.

Attack it, SuperMum. Then bask in the reward of achievement.

In this week’s episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about procrastination.

Listen to it NOW. Not tomorrow. Not next week. NOW.

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about managing to eat nutritious food in spite of being rushed off your feet.

Now, I’ll be honest with you, but whenever I hear anything about healthy eating, my eyes start to glaze over. I’m not sure why, because I’m a complete foodie. I love to cook, I love healthy natural ingredients, heck, I even like grocery shopping.

But that whole healthy eating monologue I find, well…. kinda dull.

That was, until I met Mandie Spooner. Mandie is a Nutritional Therapist, living in the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Mandie brings a special sparkle to eating great food, and she doesn’t even mention quinoa, or chickpeas.

You’ll love this show because Mandie teaches us about how we can incorporate more broccoli into our busy life in a fun and informative way.

And the best bit? Mandie even gives you permission to eat CAKE!

Feel like tearing your hair out?
That’s understandable .

Running at full speed to get everything done?
Yeah, me to.

Fed up with the relentless demands that keep coming your way?
I get it.

Feeling sorry for yourself?
That’s up to you.

Because you choose how you show up in the world.

Are you the mum who moans about how hard it was to get the kids out of the house that morning?

Or are you the mum that, despite fighting that very same battle, chooses to be cheerful?

Sometimes a warm smile or a friendly good morning makes a world of difference. If only to yourself.

What will you choose SuperMum?

Check out this week’s episode of The Friday Café where Michelle Dawson and I talk about ‘poor me’ syndrome.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

Sep 19, 2016

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is all about overcoming the challenges of the early years. We’ve all been there, your baby won’t stop crying, smelly nappies need changing, toddlers having meltdowns in the middle of the supermarket, negotiating red shoes versus blue shoes with your three year old and all topped off with a copious sprinkling of sleepless nights.

It’s a really busy time, and as mums we can often end up feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. But don’t despair because my guest today will help you see through the fog.

SuperMum, Libby Lennon and her husband have three busy boys aged 6, 3 and 2, and for a while there, they had three children under four. Libby’s eldest son started school this year, which is the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. It adds a new dynamic with getting out of the house on time in the morning and she still has two pre-schoolers and a part time job to contend with.

Despite all the balls that Libby keeps in the air, and the huge volume of work that she faces every single day, she does it with a spring in her step and a positive attitude. Libby has such a bright and energetic soul, and I know you’ll love her.

Even if you’ve come out of the chaos of the pre-school years, Libby is well worth listening to, because you can nod in agreement and say, ‘I remember it well’.

Libby’s really frank and honest about the challenges that the early years throw at you, but she gives us her own real life examples plus the actionable steps that she took. Amongst the chaos, she’s managed her own needs in the scraps of spare time that she’s able to scrape together.

By being personally fulfilled and happy, Libby’s better able to serve her family. Because of this, she’s successfully been able to stay positive, manage her mindset, and in years to come she’ll be able to look back at these intense early years with fondness because she’s genuinely enjoying the journey.

You tell yourself,

I can’t cope with anything else.

I’m not capable.

It always goes wrong.

That pesky voice in your head. There’s always something negative to say, always a reason to keep you down, always telling you not to bother because you’ll probably fail.

But what if you could zap that inner critic with a hefty dose of self love and replace it with an inner cheerleader?

Because you are worthy.

You can cope.

And you’re an amazing mum.

Start to believe it and you’ll start to see it SuperMum.

In this week’s episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about the benefits of loving ourselves unconditionally. Because until we can, how can we expect love in return?

The brilliant thing about what Lucy has to share today is that it can be applied irrespective of the length of time you’ve been out of the work force. It might be that you’ve stayed at home with your kids throughout the pre-school years and and beyond.

So whether you’ve been away for 6 months or 6 years you’re going to be hanging onto Lucy’s every word becuase what she has to tell us is massively useful and relevant, whatever stage you’re at.

Lucy has some real gems of wisdom to share with us today, for example, she gives us some actionable steps on how you can remind yourselves just how good you are professionally to really boost your confidence. She talks about how to free up precious time and get things off your to do list so you don’t feel bogged down by tasks. And this one you’ll love, Lucy not only gives us the green light to have some ‘me’ time but acually argues that it should be manditory to keep our sanity. Go Conquer Motherhood!

Aug 8, 2016

In this very first episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday, you’ll find out about the life of an ordinary mum, thick in the trenches of motherhood and dealing with the highs and lows that come with the job title of mum.

My ‘guest’ today is SuperMum, Lisa York. Yep, that’s me!

English born, I live in Canberra, Australia with my husband Bernard, sons Fred (6), Alex (5) and Benny (4) and daughter Elizabeth (2). My husbands Navy job takes us all over the world and we moved to Australia in January 2016 after living in London for three years. Next, who knows where.

Passionate that the traditional definition of a SuperMum is flawed, I’m on a one-mum-mission to change it. I mean, really. It’s impossible to impeccably keep so many balls in the air at once, hold it all together and never shout at your kids.

But finding out my son had leukaemia just days before his third birthday was a life-changer. And it gave me confidence to shout from the rooftops that a positive attitude is all you need to be a SuperMum.

Easier said than done I agree. But in this episode, you’ll find out how to begin on that journey as I weave it into my own personal story of having four children in four years and eight months.

Get to know me, my life as a mum, my positive mindset, and how The SuperMum Podcast came about. And I’ll teach you the single most important thing about being an incredible mum and how to go about achieving it.

I’m so excited to share my story with you today. It’s about mindset. The super highs and the crippling lows. It’s about motherhood in real-time. Warts and all.
