Don’t be selfish.

Think of others.

We teach it to our kids all the time.

But when is being selfish not being selfish?

When you’re doing something for yourself that actually benefits others.

Because by finding the time to do something just for you, you’re giving your kids a much happier, more content and more engaged mum.

By being so-called selfish you’re actually being incredibly smart.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about five fantastic reasons to be selfish.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday we’ll be discussing how to create the strength of mind of an athlete to use in your life as a mum which will help to create balance and harmony in your busy world.

My guest today is SuperMum, Sara Robinson.

Sara has two small boys aged 4 and 1, has a Masters Degree in Sports Psychology and is a Mental Skills Coach. After learning first hand how hard it is to juggle everything that comes with the job title of Mum, Sara worked out the solution and went on to launch ‘Get Mom Balanced’ an online community of mums.

In her work, Sara brings together her professional skills and knowledge helping athletes, plus her experience as a mum, to help other busy mums create balance and develop the mental skills needed to survive and thrive in motherhood.

Today Sara will teach us why Mental Skills Training is so beneficial, and gives us some practical tools that we can use to strengthen our minds as mums. And I don’t know about you, but some days I need some of that in extra large doses.

Sara will help us understand why it’s important to look under our own bonnet, to find where our own passions and interests lie. We can then use that as a springboard to find out what makes us tick and then harness that to create a life that we love. A life that’s fulfilling to us as a woman, instead of simply fulfilling the needs of everyone else all the time.

I’m excited that Sara is joining us today because she’s passionate about helping mums to seek balance and give them support for the challenges of mom life. And I’m confident that she’ll help you too.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

As a mum, you have plenty to worry about.

Trouble is, worry doesn’t change anything, and most of the things you worry about never end up happening.

If a problem CAN be solved, why worry about it? Instead use your energy to fix it.

If a problem CAN’T be solved, why worry about it? There’s nothing you can do to stop it. Instead use your energy to deal with it.

Don’t miss the sun that’s shining today worrying about the rain that may come tomorrow.

Worry never serves us. And it doesn’t change anything. Only you can change it.

Have faith in yourself that you can overcome it.

Because you can SuperMum. You can.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about the brilliant tactics you can use to banish worry.

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday we’ll be discussing a research study that is currently being conducted into the well-being of mothers of pre-school aged children.

My guest today is SuperMum, Lauren Wills.

Lauren has an 8 year old daughter, and a son who is 5, and is a Life Coach for Mums. She’s passionate about helping women reclaim their inner spark and live a life they love.

Lauren has a Master of Social Work from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and is currently a PhD candidate studying the well-being of pre-school mothers.

In her work, Lauren has discovered that there’s a tremendous amount of research into the institution of motherhood, but sadly, we often don’t get to hear about it.

But she’s determined to change that, because Lauren believes that when more information is readily available to us mothers, we’ll stop feeling like our problems are exclusively ours, or that we have to work out a solution and deal with those challenges by ourselves.

Lauren’s research has shown that a mother’s well-being has a more positive an impact on her child than her education, her employment, the number of hours her child spends in day care or any other factors. Read that again. It’s really significant.

I’m excited that Lauren is joining us today to share her knowledge and findings, and in doing so, gives us the kick-start we need to start prioritising our own well-being.

Ask your child to tell you about mother’s guilt and they’ll look at you blankly.

“There will be so many times when you feel like you’ve failed, but in the eyes, heart and mind of your child, you are a supermum”

I love this quote by Stephanie Precourt.

Guilt is an emotion that we mums load on to ourselves because we never feel as if we quite live up to the mark.

But if we’re putting guilt on to ourselves, then we have the power to take it away from ourselves.

Bottom line, your child loves you right up to the moon.

And you love them right up to the moon …. and back.

You’re doing a great job. Now you just need to believe it.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about the dreaded mummy guilt and how we can attack it head on.

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is about managing the inevitable stress that goes hand-in-hand with being a busy mum. We’ve all felt it when the demands build up and up to the point where they overwhelm us.

My guest today is SuperMum, Kate Snowise.

New Zealand born Kate lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and their two small boys who are 4 and 2. Despite writing her Masters thesis on stress and wellbeing, Kate readily admits that being a parent is the toughest job she’s ever had.

Before becoming a mum, Kate was a Corporate Psychologist and started her own business as a Life and Executive Coach after being a stay-at-home mum for two years.

Kate will help us identify what stress is in simple terms, how we can recognise whether it’s building up within us to the point where it might be a problem, and how we can eliminate the inevitable stress that seems to be integral to our lives as a busy mum.

Kate’s fusion of professional knowledge, her education in the field of Positive Psychology, and the hands on practical experience she’s gained from the trenches of motherhood, makes her the perfect person to help us understand and combat the stress we deal with as mothers.

I’m so pleased that Kate has joined us today because her advice really will help you to eradicate stress and make a big difference in your life making it happier and healthier.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

It’s easy to wait until your kids are older.

It’s easy to wait until you have more spare time.

It’s easy to wait until you’ve ticked everything off your to-do list.

It’s easy to wait until you have the perfect plan in place.

But guess what?

That day will never come because the right moment doesn’t exist.

It’s really hard to start, but once you do, you’ll start to build momentum.

Remind yourself that every single thing you’ve ever achieved, however small, has been the result of taking action.

You have a choice.

You can do nothing. Or you can make a start.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about one of my favourite subjects and something that is fundamental to achieving success. Taking action.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is about having self confidence in your ability as a mum.

SuperMum Barbara Liquorish is mum to 5 year old James and 2 year old William, and although she freely admits she doesn’t always gets it right, she has a deeply ingrained believe in her ability to succeed.

16 years as a mental care nurse has given Barbara insights and first hand knowledge of people who are vulnerable and desperate, but she’s taken the experience, knowledge and observations of her work and transferred them to her life as a mother.

In this episode you’ll discover why Barbara doesn’t use parenting books, but instead looks closely at what’s under her nose to find the right answers. She talks about how we mums can figure out what the right course of action is, despite the huge amount of information that is available to us. And we discuss why in our generation, we can often feel isolated as a mum, and left alone to work it out the whole motherhood thing for ourselves.

I love that Barbara is such a confident parent. I love that she won’t be bullied. I love that she holds onto her own core values and has a real understanding of herself, and that she puts that into her parenting.

I know that you’ll love listening to her insights on the show today.

I should say yes.

My children are begging me to say yes.

My friend thinks I should say yes.

My head says I should say yes.

Logically, I should say yes.

Rationally, I should say yes.

That’s it. I’ll say yes.

But it doesn’t feel right.

My gut says no.

I’m not sure why it says no.

But it does.

So, what is my answer?

The answer is no.

In this weeks episode of The Friday Café, Michelle Dawson and I talk about following your intuition and why it’s wise to following your hunch to say no, even when everyone else thinks you should say yes.

True teams are made when you put aside individual wants for collective good.

That quote certainly sums up my Mum-to-mum Monday guests today.

And yes, I did say guests. Because both members of an incredible husband-wife team are with me today, which also means we have our very first SuperDad on the show.

SuperMum, Angie-Newby Stubbs and her husband Ian Hunt have been together for 14 years and have two adorable daughters aged 8 and 2.

Angie and Ian both work in the construction industry. Angie as a designer, and Ian an architectural designer.

This time last year, Angie and Ian agreed to make a radical role change when Angie returned to work full time and became the family breadwinner and Ian took on the role of caring for their children and managing the home.

Listen in to find out why they made this decision, the effects it’s had on them as a couple and a family, and how things are working out one year on.
