In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday we’ll be talking about how to rediscover a new passion, power and purpose in your life to create meaningful success and a purposeful balance in your life.

My guest today is SuperMum, Sally Thibault.

Sally has three adult children, one of whom is autistic, and lives on the Gold Coast of Australia with her husband of 35 years to the day. Sally is a professional Keynote Speaker, the author of two books, and a certified Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also a Women’s Success Mentor and facilitates the Reclaim You programs.

With over 35 years experience in the Health and Wellness Industry, Sally has been featured extensively in Australian national and local media and is currently the Health and Wellness Expert on a Queensland national radio programme.

As the mother of adult children, Sally gives us her benefit of hindsight and perspective on raising children, and she shares with us how she overcame many of the obstacles of motherhood.

It wasn’t an easy journey, having three children, one with Aspergers Syndrome, as well as managing her career.

Over the years, Sally has learned about the true meaning of purpose, parenting and living in the present. She believes the patterns of the past hold the solutions to what you want in the future. Today Sally will help us make sense of those patterns in order to follow through with the intentions you have set, and create success in your life as a mum.

I’m so happy to have Sally on my show today. She has so much wisdom to share from a mum who’s been there in the trenches. She’s here to share the strength and positivity she gained from her experiences throughout her mothering years.

She’s an accomplished keynote and TEDx speaker, and has been in professional show business for over two decades. Her impressive list of clients include corporate giants such as Starbucks, Microsoft and PayPal.

Although Victoria commonly helps elite entrepreneurs, best-selling authors and C-suite executives to communicate with confidence, authenticity and impact, her work can also be applied to mums. In fact, the concept of Risking Forward™ aligns perfectly with mums because it’s something you already do so naturally without even realising it.

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday, we’re going on an adventure. Back in time to the 18th Century where we follow the extraordinary story of a mother of yesteryear. If Mary Wollstonecraft was around today, she would be considered a pretty normal mum. But back then her actions and choices caused plenty of tut-tutting and twitching curtains, and her bad reputation preceded her.

My guest today is SuperMum Bee Rowlatt.

Bee is a writer, journalist and broadcaster who has worked for the BBC for over two decades. She’s a regular contributor to the Daily Telegraph, and the author of several books including ‘In Search of Mary’ which we’ll be talking about today. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, she also has four children aged between 6 and 15. Bee, her husband and four kids moved from London to New Delhi a couple of years ago in search of their next life-experience.

In a moment of ‘mum-life crisis’ and sick of the endless piles of laundry, Bee whisked up her 10 month old son and set off on an extraordinary adventure in search of the life and legacy of Mary Wollstonecraft, the first celebrity feminist.

In her quest to find a new balance between careers and babies, Bee also discovered the importance of celebrating the radiant power of love in all our lives.

In discussing motherhood in the 1790’s, Bee brings the joys, challenges and craziness of being a mum right back into the 21st Century. We talk about ‘having it all’ as a mum; the influence of culture on your experience as a mum; and creating adventure in your life despite the restrictions of motherhood.

Getting kids to help with the chores is painful to say the least. In fact, given the choice, pulling out my teeth with rusty pliers seems like a good option.

But getting your brood to help around the house is not only beneficial to them, it’s beneficial to you.

It will test your patience to the max, but you’ll reap the rewards in the long-run.

Kate, her husband, and their three children, who are 13, 11 and 7, live near Richmond Park in Greater London where she loves to breathe, cycle and deer stalk. But she found a solution, and along with it, her calling to help other mothers who were also feeling lost in motherhood.

Do you ever feel that if one more thing goes wrong you’ll break down and cry? Or if one more demand is placed on you, you’ll surely explode?

Humm. Me too.

I call it stacking.

Each little tug on your time is perfectly innocent in it’s own right. But one thing gets stacked on top of another, and another on top of that. Eventually you have such a tall tower it starts to topple.

And of course toppling towers end up crashing down in a pile on the floor.

Our challenge as a mum is to stop that tower getting too tall.

Easier said than done, I know. But it is possible.

Nikki is a Psychologist and Career Coach, and the mum of two daughters who are 7 and 4. She’s a keen surfer loves to catch the waves at the beach near her home in Barwon Heads in Australia.

In her work, Nikki focuses on helping her clients get to know their true strengths and encourages them to leverage those strengths to transform their work life into something that they’re passionate about.

In todays show, Nikki teaches us that your true strengths are activities that energise you, and that you find ease with. The great thing about understanding your strengths, is that you can employ them in all areas areas of your life, including your role as mum.

When you discover your strengths, you gain clarity, confidence and momentum in your life; and when you play to them, you double your productivity, resilience and creativity.

This morning on the 30 minute walk to school, I counted the number of times I moaned at my kids.

I ran out of fingers and toes.

But I’m OK with that, because I’m keeping my kids safe, I’m teaching them to be kind, I’m helping them to be compassionate.

I’m bringing them up to be good citizens of the world, and I’m doing my job well.

But at what point to I need to stop being so uptight, and start laughing a little?

Sleep, elusive sleep

From the last weeks of our first pregnancy, the sleep deficit begins. And so to, a taste of things to come.

For me, that was over seven years ago. And as much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, I haven’t had a full eight hours since.

Self inflicted admittedly. I’m not pregnant, don’t have a newborn and my kids sleep like angels.

But oh! That precious golden time once the kids are in bed. The day is done, the jobs are finished (at least for now) and the house is quiet.

ME TIME!!! Yippee

Why would I want to give that up to go to bed?

But how well is the lack of Zzzzzz’s serving me?

My son hurling a mini quiche at the String Quartet last weekend was not my proudest mummy moment.

Now I know small boys and String Quartets are not good bed fellows, but then it’s not every day your mother-in-law turns 80.

Nicole lives in Melbourne, Australia with her husband and five gorgeous kids ranging from 7 to 17 years old. She more than most knows the importance of organising the chaos of family life, and by pulling together her business know-how, hands of experience as the mum of five, and the things she’s learned from other families to bring us ‘Planning with Kids’. She’s written a book by the same, is a sought-after speaker, and has created a blog, a podcast, a menu planner app, an e-course called ‘Planning and Present’.

Today Nicole will teach us why careful planning acts as a safety blanket in our life as a busy mum. Mess and disorganisation brings and extra layer of stress to our lives and so planning for the known components of family life means you are better able to cope with the whole host of unknowns that family life constantly throws up at you.

Nicole leads by example because although she has a tribe of kids and a busy family life, as well as running a business, she still finds time to run marathons and carves out relaxed and fun time with her children.

From the moment the umbilical cord is cut, today’s parents often feel trapped in a never-ending race to ensure their child is the brightest and the best. Mozart in the womb, Baby Einstein DVDs for newborns, and learning apps for toddlers is just the beginning. And while it’s completely natural for us to want our kids to reach their potential, at what point does too much competition become damaging not only to our children, but to us as mums?

In this episode, we’ll explore the effects that competitive parenting has on us as women, how the extra work load of out-of-school activities is affecting us, and the impact it’s having on our relationships with our partner, our children and our family life.

Tanith will help us examine more closely the choices we make for our children’s free time, and look at it from a bigger picture perspective. She helps us question whether, in trying to do the absolute best by our children, we might actually be creating unnecessary problems for ourselves and them.

My daughter Elizabeth is learning to talk.

She’s two and a half, so the vast world of words lays wide open before her.

I listen to her every day. Desperately trying to communicate, repeating herself again and again in the (often) forlorn attempt to be understood.

But does she ever give up, throw her hands in the air and declare that it’s all too hard?

Of course not. She just keeps on trying. That’s because, like all toddlers, she has a growth mindset.

She’s open to new possibilities, she won’t give up and she’s never afraid to fail.

We can learn so much from our little ones because it’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be.

Don’t be selfish.

My guest today is SuperMum, Sara Robinson.

Sara has two small boys aged 4 and 1, has a Masters Degree in Sports Psychology and is a Mental Skills Coach. After learning first hand how hard it is to juggle everything that comes with the job title of Mum, Sara worked out the solution and went on to launch ‘Get Mom Balanced’ an online community of mums.

In her work, Sara brings together her professional skills and knowledge helping athletes, plus her experience as a mum, to help other busy mums create balance and develop the mental skills needed to survive and thrive in motherhood.

Today Sara will teach us why Mental Skills Training is so beneficial, and gives us some practical tools that we can use to strengthen our minds as mums. And I don’t know about you, but some days I need some of that in extra large doses.

Sara will help us understand why it’s important to look under our own bonnet, to find where our own passions and interests lie. We can then use that as a springboard to find out what makes us tick and then harness that to create a life that we love. A life that’s fulfilling to us as a woman, instead of simply fulfilling the needs of everyone else all the time.

If a problem CAN be solved, why worry about it? Instead use your energy to fix it.

If a problem CAN’T be solved, why worry about it? There’s nothing you can do to stop it. Instead use your energy to deal with it.

Don’t miss the sun that’s shining today worrying about the rain that may come tomorrow.

Worry never serves us. And it doesn’t change anything. Only you can change it.

Have faith in yourself that you can overcome it.

In today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday we’ll be discussing a research study that is currently being conducted into the well-being of mothers of pre-school aged children.

My guest today is SuperMum, Lauren Wills.

Lauren has an 8 year old daughter, and a son who is 5, and is a Life Coach for Mums. She’s passionate about helping women reclaim their inner spark and live a life they love.

Lauren has a Master of Social Work from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and is currently a PhD candidate studying the well-being of pre-school mothers.

In her work, Lauren has discovered that there’s a tremendous amount of research into the institution of motherhood, but sadly, we often don’t get to hear about it.

But she’s determined to change that, because Lauren believes that when more information is readily available to us mothers, we’ll stop feeling like our problems are exclusively ours, or that we have to work out a solution and deal with those challenges by ourselves.

Lauren’s research has shown that a mother’s well-being has a more positive an impact on her child than her education, her employment, the number of hours her child spends in day care or any other factors. Read that again. It’s really significant.

I’m excited that Lauren is joining us today to share her knowledge and findings, and in doing so, gives us the kick-start we need to start prioritising our own well-being.

Ask your child to tell you about mother’s guilt and they’ll look at you blankly.

“There will be so many times when you feel like you’ve failed, but in the eyes, heart and mind of your child, you are a supermum”

I love this quote by Stephanie Precourt.

Guilt is an emotion that we mums load on to ourselves because we never feel as if we quite live up to the mark.

Bottom line, your child loves you right up to the moon.

And you love them right up to the moon …. and back.

You’re doing a great job. Now you just need to believe it.

Today’s episode of Mum-to-Mum Monday is about managing the inevitable stress that goes hand-in-hand with being a busy mum. We’ve all felt it when the demands build up and up to the point where they overwhelm us.

My guest today is SuperMum, Kate Snowise.

New Zealand born Kate lives in Houston, Texas with her husband and their two small boys who are 4 and 2. Despite writing her Masters thesis on stress and wellbeing, Kate readily admits that being a parent is the toughest job she’s ever had.

Before becoming a mum, Kate was a Corporate Psychologist and started her own business as a Life and Executive Coach after being a stay-at-home mum for two years.

Kate will help us identify what stress is in simple terms, how we can recognise whether it’s building up within us to the point where it might be a problem, and how we can eliminate the inevitable stress that seems to be integral to our lives as a busy mum.

Kate’s fusion of professional knowledge, her education in the field of Positive Psychology, and the hands on practical experience she’s gained from the trenches of motherhood, makes her the perfect person to help us understand and combat the stress we deal with as mothers.
