This is the final episode in the High Five Friday series. But don’t despair because I’m not going away any time soon. I’m just turning my attention to more impressive things so I can carry on serving you in a much better way.

Don't worry, you'll still get a weekly podcast. Every week on Mum-to-Mum Monday I’ll carry on interviewing successful mums like I always have, so I can share their stories and wisdom with you. I’ve got some amazing women lined up for the coming weeks and beyond.

But with High Five Friday, it's time to step aside and make way for something new. Because you know me.

I love change, I love being pro-active, and I love to move forward.

Wanna progress with me?

On today's High Five Friday, I’ll be explaining why this is the last episode, and how I plan to keep serving you in a much better way with my hugely exciting new plans.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

In his book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey wrote, "Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen".

Having a clear vision for the future applies to all areas of your life, parenting is no exception.

The mothering 'project' might be long, but having a goal for what you want to achieve with your children gives you clarity from the barrage of demands, the tedium of getting dinner on the table and the worry about their school work.

Today on High Five Friday, Michelle Dawson talks about the importance of parenting with the end in mind.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking life will be better when your children’s behaviour improves. Or when your husband is more helpful around the house. Or when things calm down at work.

Why?

Because once you’ve sorted it out, they’ll always, always, always be something equally annoying to replace it. Instead, realise this.

Success comes from within. It’s a mind thing, and it starts with you.

Today on High Five Friday, I talk about the exact success pathway you should follow to have the life you want. This will become the foundation stone to my teaching on The SuperMum App. It’s a long way off yet (because life is busy and time is short), but I want you with me in it from the beginning.

Once finished, The SuperMum App will be beside you, on your phone, in your pocket, and helping you achieve success every step of the way.

Every week, twice a week, I bring you bursts of mummy wisdom. I love that you go away feeling inspired and renewed and full of hope that your life as a mum will be improved.

But how long does that inspiration last?

Until the kids start squabbling again? Until you're frantically trying to get dinner on the table before everyones blood sugar crashes? Until you fall over the line at the end of another hectic day with a heavy heart knowing that you get to do it all again tomorrow?

But you know me, ever practical, ever actionable, ever realistic.

That's why I have an exciting new project that's just starting to bubble away under the surface.

The SuperMum App.

Today on High Five Friday, I give you the background to my idea, and how my experience in the school of life makes me perfectly placed to develop something with me beside you, in your pocket, on your journey through motherhood.

Sometimes in life, you meet someone whose philosophy to life you immediately resonate with.

Olivia Horne was one of those people. When I spoke with her in Episode 45, she talked with such passion, truth and insight that I found myself swallowing hard.

That was before I listened to her guided meditations on YouTube, which completely blew me away.

You’ll hear about my emotional reaction to Olivia’s meditations on today’s episode, but off the back of our conversation, Olivia agreed to record a mummy meditation, especially for SuperMum listeners.

You can grab this free goodie by clicking the link below.

Today on High Five Friday, Olivia Horne talks about the importance of mums taking time out for themselves and the practicalities of doing it.

I hope you make sure you give yourself the gift of time to enjoy the meditation.

You deserve it.

Go Conquer Motherhood!

A few weeks after my first child was born, my sister-in-law told me to savour these newborn moments because they won’t last forever

I distinctly remember looking down at my crying baby and through bloodshot eyes, thinking, GOOD!

I wanted this phase to be over.

But she was right. In the blink of an eye, that screaming baby is now almost half way through his childhood. Yikes.

I quickly came to realise that motherhood will inevitably be full of hills and valleys. I didn’t want to wish the whole flippin’ lot away so instead, I figured out a way to combat it.

Today on High Five Friday, Lisa York talks about how to change your thinking so you don’t end up wishing their entire childhood away.

I love the term ‘hanging out’. I’d not really heard it much before I moved to Australia ten years ago. But here it’s part of the everyday language.

Hanging out means just ‘being’. Spending time doing whatever takes your fancy. No agenda, no plans, nowhere to be. Just hanging out.

I love it because when someone in Australia asks what you’ve been up to, you can answer, ‘hanging out’. Which is much more socially acceptable than saying I’ve been idling around the house in my pyjamas, drinking tea and watching kids TV.

Because in our minds, ‘being’ can often be construed as being unproductive or lazy.

Today on High Five Friday, Michelle Dawson talks about the importance of ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’ all the time.

I don’t think I’ve ever reflected on my own childhood as much as I have since becoming a mum myself. I expect you feel the same.

Your childhood experiences shape and mould the things you do as a mum. You’ve bought your rituals from a time when you were a kid yourself into your own family today.

All the fun stuff. Like having pizza and a movie on a Friday night.

But there are also the things that you’ve decided never to do with your own brood. Because you don’t want them to feel the way you did growing up.

I hadn’t realised until I became a mum why I’m so pro change. Why I’m all for taking control of your life. And why I’m a firm believer that you have the power to shape your own future.

Turns out, it stems from my own childhood.

This week on High Five Friday, I talk about the importance of embracing change. Because if you don’t, it can cause a whole heap of problems that you didn’t bargain for.

If I told you to get back into your lighthouse, you’d probably think I was being rude. But what if that’s the best place for you?

Using a lighthouse as a metaphor, Life Coach Victoria Kate explains why coming out of your lighthouse doesn’t help anyone.

Not yourself. Not your children. Not your family or your friends. Nope. The best place for you is back inside.

Because that’s where you serve everyone best.

This week on High Five Friday, Victoria and I tell you about the importance of staying strong and shining your light brightly. For everyones sake.

Have you ever been on your dream holiday but felt tired and irritable while you were there?

Are you wearing those beautiful shoes that you’ve been longing for, but still have an empty feeling in the pit of your stomach?

Have you finally got the promotion that you’ve been working long and hard for, only to be sat at your desk feeling unfulfilled?

And you ask yourself, “Why can’t I just be happy?”

Well, perhaps it’s because you’ve fallen into the trap of associating happiness with something tangible. If so, it’s time to have a rethink.

This week on High Five Friday, I explore 3 alternative secrets to enduring happiness that you might not have thought of.

The decisions we make shape our destiny.

Powerful statement, I know. But it’s true.

Whether good or bad, and whether you like it or not, the decisions you make have a massive influence over the way our life turns out.

But even knowing that, why do some people continue to make poor decisions day in, day out? Surely they just need a bit more self control.

Or do they?

This week on High Five Friday, Michelle Dawson explores why we make the decisions we do, and how we can get better outcomes without relying on self control.

Has a random stranger ever come up to you and told you off about what you’re doing (or not doing) with your child?

There’s nothing I find more irritating.

Stranger: “Excuse me dear, it’s a very cold day. Don’t you think he should have his socks on”.

You: “You don’t say. That’s why I’ve put them back on 15 times already and finally gave up about a minute before you arrived” (said in thought bubble).

It’s happened to me just a few times in my 7 years as a parent, but boy, do I remember it.

Why?

Because it’s annoying. And it feels like a hurtful criticism when I’m trying my best.

Does the stranger remember it?

No. Of course not.

Because to them it’s just a fly-away comment.

This week on High Five Friday, I rant about what I’d say to that random stranger, if I had the nerve.

Motherhood, as you know, is a hugely transitional time. And in the fog of raising kids, it’s possible to completely loose the sense of who you are in all of this.

But exhale, because research shows that this is completely normal. And it’s OK. Because it’s all part of an evolving process.

You won’t feel lost forever.

This week on High Five Friday, I ask mum of two Lauren Wills, who is a PhD candidate studying the well-being of pre-school mothers, to explain how and why our identity changes when we become a mum.

Let’s just say ….

You love your job

You enjoy every moment with your kids

You can’t bear to be away from your husband

And you want to spend all weekend washing clothes and ironing shirts.

Let’s just say.

Even in perfect-land, taking time out to reboot is really good for the soul.

And for the rest of us who aren’t living in that bubble, it’s even more important.

This week on High Five Friday, Lisa York talks about how to press the reset button and do a complete mummy reboot in just 24 hours.

Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore is not an act, but a habit.”

True words. But creating new habits isn’t easy for a rushed-off-your-feet mum.

But then, can you afford NOT to have daily rituals?

If mum of three busy boys aged 5, 3 and 6 months can find time to prime herself each morning for the day ahead, then so can you.

This week on High Five Friday, Michelle Dawson talks about the incredible power of a daily morning ritual to set you up for the day.

You’ve probably had moments where you hit rock bottom. I know I have.

You feel that if one more thing goes wrong, you’ll surely snap. And that’s all part of the job description when you’re a mum.

But who do you turn to?

Your husband. Your best friend. Your mum. Your sister.

Of course. They’re there to support you. But

A key person you can turn to, is you.

This week on High Five Friday, I talk about being your own best friend and your own greatest advocate.
